Now that social media is king of marketing, we kinda forgot how it all started. Traditional marketing is the use of print ads, such as newspapers and magazines ads. Some other examples of traditional marketing include flyers, tv/radio commercials and billboards.

The great thing about traditional marketing is, you can easily reach your target audience. For example, if you advertise on the radio, your ad might play in one specific city. Another example is creating a flyer, which can be distributed to specific area and sent directly to a resident’s mailbox. There is a huge benefit to using flyers–Your audience will receive a hard copy which they can read and look through over and over again. There is also a downside, some people might just toss it.

Digital Marketing on the other hand, is everything online. A lot of business leverage digital channels like websites, Google search, social media and email campaigns to connect with their prospective and current customers. Because people spend twice as much time online more than they used to, digital marketing is crucial. Marketing has always been about connecting with your audience in the right place and the right time. The thing about online vs traditional marketing is your customers are spending more time on the internet, so that’s where you need to promote yourself and your business.

Although many businesses benefit from traditional marketing, beauty brands and makeup artists are better off utilizing online marketing. Customers are now turning to social media to look for the hottest products and trending looks. Traditional marketing can be a little difficult to digest now and it’s actually more expensive. Online marketing is a lot less expensive and you can really connect with your customers and turn those “likes” into sales.
