Mario Badescu Facial Sprays Review

So, there’s a bottle next to my bed, in my bathroom drawer, in my going-away makeup bag, and a spare in my “unopened products” bag. They’re all the same, but different varieties. They’re all called the “Mario Badescu Facial Spray” and. I. adore. them. They are absolutely a cult product and very popular. However, just because something is a cult hit it doesn’t mean that everyone has tried or even heard of it! We still need up-to-date reviews of well-loved products, don’t you think?

Here’s my experience with the Mario Badescu Facial Sprays!

What are they?

A facial spray designed for all skin types, and for a multitude of uses from setting makeup to adding moisture before bed. There are three different varieties:

  1. Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (pink)
  2. Aloe, Cucumber and Green tea (green)
  3. Aloe, Chamomile, and Lavender (purple)

They all smell great, (especially the rose one!) but aren’t overpowering whatsoever. They feel and smell natural, fresh and nourishing…like a salad for the face… (weird…let’s move on). The overall theme is glowing, awakened, hydrated and nourished skin. Just what this tired old face needs!

My skin type

For reference, it helps to know the skin type of the reviewer in question!

My skin:

  • Not exactly young anymore…let’s say I’ve hit my third decade. Just kidding, I’m 30 and proud. I have absolutely noticed a change in my skin over the past few years. It’s dryer and more prone to dullness
  • Used to have adult acne from aged 21 to 24-ish (some remaining acne scars but mostly all faded by now)
  • Prone to a little oiliness on the nose (nothing extreme)
  • Prone to dull, dry patches around the cheeks
  • Blackheads on the nose at times
  • Not overly sensitive but can be irritated by strong fragrances

How do I use the Mario Badescu Facial Sprays?

Casual morning: after my cleanser and light moisturizer, I spray a generous spritz of my green Mario Badescu Facial Spray all over my face (about 6 sprays). I let it dry, then massage my BB cream (drugstore Garnier!) into my skin with my fingers. Dull patches are brightened, dryness is hydrated, and everything glows

During the day: I am perpetually tired and I have to take daytime naps sometimes. While my naps do help me get through the day, they make me look pretty puffy and sleepy. I spray the green (Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea) onto my face after my nap and I look and feel instantly fresher

Going out: after my moisturizer, I spray an extra generous dose of the rose spray all over my face before I start my makeup. I let it dry, then carry on as usual. For reference, I personally find this spray to be glowier than Mac Fix Plus. If it’s a casual night out, I’ll use the rose spray as a setting spray, otherwise, I go in with the big guns, Urban Decay All Nighter

Before bed: after my evening skincare routine, I sink into bed, grab my rose Mario Badescu Facial Spray and give the face a generous spritz. I like either the rose or lavender one before bed, but at the moment, it’s a rose phase. I wake up in the morning with noticeably, softer, glowier, more vibrant skin than when I skip this step (which is rare!).

What are the pros and cons?

  • Affordable
  • Hydrate my skin without making it feel greasy but gives me a visible glow
  • Makes my makeup apply beautifully
  • Doesn’t irritate my skin
  • Refreshing during the day and relaxing at night (they smell delish!)
  • The spray is great! Not too misty, not too heavy

I honestly can’t think of any setbacks. However, if you’re looking for an ultra-glowy spray or a long-wear makeup spray, keep looking. These give the skin a natural dewy appearance as opposed to a highlight-like sheen or shimmer. They won’t make your makeup last longer (not in my experience), but they will make it meld and fuse with the skin for a more blended result.

Note: some people are sensitive to lavender in skincare products, so veer toward the green tea or rose variety if you suspect your skin is opposed to lavender.

Do I recommend them?

You can tell by now…yes.

The smaller bottles are so affordable, there’s not a lot to lose by picking one up to see for yourself. If I were to recommend just one, I’d go for the rose. It smells delicious and I find it to be the most nourishing and hydrating of the three.

Have you tried the Mario Badescu facial sprays? Let us know what you think of them!
