So, it’s Saturday night. You decided you are not going to one of the many Christmas parties…you just can’t be bothered.
However, your friend is begging you to go, and you feel guilty. Plus, the lure of bespoke Christmas cocktails is really swaying you. Fine, you’ll go.
There’s only ten minutes to get ready before the Uber is here. Makeup time! Here’s a last-minute, rush-a-thon makeup look for the festive season.
The look: minimal base, lash-y eyes, seductive red lips. Simple yet striking.
The base:
First thing’s first…go wash your face ASAP and slap on your usual moisturizer.
Get your usual foundation, mix it with a drop of oil or liquid highlight and apply to the face with clean fingers. Even better, use a tinted moisturizer or BB/CC cream that requires less blending. Use a brush or sponge to quickly buff out the hairline and any rough edges.
Use your go-to concealer and your ring finger to spot-conceal any redness or blemishes.
Tip: the oil or liquid highlight makes the foundation easier to blend and offers a natural glow without layering different highlighting products. However, if you’ve got oily skin you can skip this step.
The cheeks:
Take your go-to blush and buff onto the apples of the cheeks and up toward the temples. Buff what’s left on the brush into the hairline and over the nose. This won’t make you look sunburnt, if that’s what you’re thinking. In fact, it gives a cohesion to the look that’s barely detectable but so worth it.
Take a cream or liquid highlight on your finger tips and dab onto the high points of the cheeks, the bridge of the nose, a little above the outer edge of the brows.
The eyes:
No time for fancy! Brush your brows and fill with a tinted brow gel or pencil (whatever your go-to method is).
Take a little bronzer or neutral shadow on a fluffy brush and buff into the crease and into the lower lashline.
Tip: you can lay down a layer of cream shadow or eyeshadow base to cancel out any redness or get rid of oiliness, otherwise just keep them bare.
IF you have time, pop a dab of shimmer shadow onto the center of the lids and the inner corners.
Add 2 generous coats of mascara.
The lips:
Here’s where the “pow” happens. Take your brightest red lip liner (like this one) and outline the lips. Take your brightest red liquid or bullet lipstick (like this one or this one) and fill the lips in, starting from the inside and working outward. Press your lips onto a tissue to remove the excess.
The finish:
Spray with a long-lasting setting spray, stash your lippie in your bag, and off you go.
