Some guys are great with their skincare maintenance. They’ve got their go-to cleansers and moisturizers, and 100% do not need your help. Others? Clueless. They’re just not used to the world of beauty, they’ve never had the tour. However, they notice their skin is dry or dull. They notice their brows are a little haywire. These guys? They need a bit of guidance. Whether it’s a boyfriend, Dad, brother or friend, here are some great beauty gifts for guys who don’t wear makeup!
1. Cleanser
Even people who don’t wear makeup should cleanse their face. A light cleanser at night will remove built-up dirt from the day, and excess oils clogging the pores. All kinds of stuff builds up in and on our skin as we move through our daily lives, so we need to give our skin a helping hand to stay fresh and clear.
If your man in mind has got normal skin, a light cream cleanser is fine. For oilier or acne-prone skin, an oil-free cleanser with tea tree would be great. For dry skin? A nourishing cream cleanser or cleansing balm would be lovely.
You could even ask your local beauty haven for a few samples, get him to try them, then send him the full-size once he decides (I know it sounds like a lot of admin, but it’s a lovely gesture and many guys won’t do this for themselves!).
2. Night cream
My boyfriend became very interested in my nighttime skincare routine all of a sudden.
“My skin feels dry. I used that stuff in the shower though”. Turns out “that stuff” was cleanser and he was using it without moisturizing afterward. I had to stop myself from saying “are you serious?” and made myself remember that skincare for him is like cricket for me: NO. FREAKING. CLUE.
Long story short…he has dry skin and needs to moisturize, especially at night. When we sleep, our bodies replenish and repair, which is why we need that all-important beauty sleep. Adding a rich, nourishing night cream helps the skin to repair, plump and renew.
For your guy, try something light and fragrance free. The Cetaphil Rich Hydrating Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid (approx. $11.65) is a great choice for all skin types. It’s fuss-free but still completely effective and will have him glowing.
3. SPF Day Cream
Man, woman, girl, boy, adult, child…SPF. No questions asked. Get the man in your life to get into a routine of using an SPF every morning, especially if they work outside or spend lots of time outside (i.e. sporty dudes!). You can’t go wrong with an oil-free, lightweight, hydrating SPF which doubles as a moisturizer.
You could try the Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Water Gel Sunscreen SPF25 ($24.99). Hydration is very important for everyone, no matter the gender. If your guy is getting past his 20s and into his 30s, moisturizing is even more important, for comfort as well as aesthetics.
4. Tweezers (and a brow tutorial)
Tidy brows aren’t just for ladies. Keeping things clean and clear between the brows, and maybe even a few runaways under the brow makes a huge difference to the male face. A good pair of tweezers and a few pointers on how to groom the brows quickly and with minimal pain will go a long way.
This one’s pretty self-explanatory!
Extras…once he gets used to the basics
– Face scrub for removing dead skin and avoiding bumpy shaving rashes
– SPF lip balm to keep the lips protected from harmful UV rays (and kissable…if
he’s a guy you kiss, that is)
– Eye cream for keeping the skin around the eyes soft and young as he ages
Your guy in mind will forever thank you for helping him to keep his face clear and soft…even if he doesn’t know it yet!
It sure is hard to get men past the Irish Spring stage... I got my hubby a premium line of products which he has tried and loves about half of them.. Says the rest aren't for him..whatever that means..Thanks, Denise
