While we love perusing the aisles of Sephora and filling our basket as though we have a money tree growing in our back yard, the same sadly can’t be said for our poor bank balances. Luckily, there are ways of being a beauty product fiend and lipstick hoarder while still saving our hard-earned money along the way. Keep scrolling for six of our favourite hacks for saving money while shopping for our favourite beauty products!
1. Honey
This is a Google Chrome extension that is all kinds of genius and a hallelujah-inducing invention for beauty lovers. All you have to do is download the app, shop online as usual, and your icon will turn orange and a number will appear; this number is notifying you of how many coupon/discount codes are currently available for that website.
2. Leave items in your online shopping cart overnight
This hack is one of our personal favourites as it leaves us feeling pretty…well, smug. When the website notices that you’ve left items in your basket without checking out, they will often send out an email ‘reminder’, which usually includes a discount, or a freebie add on to encourage you to click that checkout button!
3. Look high and low (literally)
This one sounds pretty obvious when we sit and think about it, but stores tend to place their most profitable and expensive products at eye-level, so by looking lower and higher than usual when browsing the shelves, you could find a much better deal.
4. Subscribe to email lists
The constant influx of email notifications may become slightly annoying, but it’s worth it (honestly) as you are regularly given access to generous discount codes, offers and sales previews on your favourite beauty shopping sites.
5. Find dupes
Where there’s a high-end product with an even higher price tag, there’s usually a dupe of it. And if you don’t fancy scrolling through the internet in search of that perfect dupe for your favourite foundation or blush shade, there are two girls on Instagram that will do all the hard work for you. Their handle is @dupethat and they have some seriously impressive duping skills.
6. Join store clubs and programs
One of the perks of spending quite a few (AKA a lot) of dollars on beauty products is that the rewards are often generous and can save us some serious bucks. For example, if you spend $350 per year at Sephora, you qualify as a ‘beauty insider’ on their rewards program and you can build up a serious amount of points on your card and gain some serious perks along the way!
