Morphe Continuous Setting Mist Review
When you think of makeup setting sprays, you likely think of the OG Urban Decay All Nighter Spray. However, many gurus have been raving about the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist Spray, so we had to give it a spritz! Check out LiveGlam beauty blogger Gin’s review of this popular holy grail.
Hey, beauty friends!
So, I ran out of my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. I used it up over this hot, hot summer we’ve had over here in the Southern Hemisphere.
I took the opportunity to try out a new setting spray and test it against the old classic All Nighter. I’d heard many gurus raving about the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist ($16) so I had to see for myself. I have to say I was very excited about the prospect of an ultra-fine, “glob-free” mist…and a lower price tag.
The timing was great because my order arrived the day that I left for a road trip on a hot weekend to a winery region. If there’s anything that can put a setting spray to the test it’s a summer day, lots of biking, plenty of wine sipping, and lots of sweat.
I tested the setting spray over three full days before putting down my final thoughts! (Spoiler, there’s Zumba involved, oh yes).
WEAR ONE
Wear one products: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, MAC ‘Painterly’ Paint Pot, Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, Stila Convertible Colour, and L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara.
First impressions: this mist IS FINE. So fine, in fact, that it didn’t actually feel like any product was reaching my face, so I loaded it on. I opened my eyes and yup, a saturated face greeted me in the mirror. Once it dries down, the finish is dewy and fresh, just like I like it. I don’t dab or press my setting spray into the skin after applying, I simply leave it.
Wear one activities: Summer wine tour on bikes, drinking, sweating outdoors. Then out for dinner.
End-of-day verdict: Looking good! After a long, sweaty day, my under eyes were barely smudged (just a little bit), and my skin looked even and fresh. My tinted moisturizer, while sheer, was still in place. I didn’t feel the need to reapply any makeup before going out for dinner that night. So far, so good!
WEAR TWO
Wear two products: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, MAC ‘Painterly’ Paint Pot, LiveGlam Marbled L.A Palette, Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, and L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara.
Wear two activities: I worked in an air-conditioned office all day, walked home from work (about 30 mins) and then did a 1-hour combat/boxing cardio class at the gym.
End of day verdict: my darker eye look was miraculously decent after an hour of punching, kicking, jumping, and sweating. The liquid eyeliner was breaking apart a little at the tip of the wing, but apart from that, everything was in place.
WEAR THREE
Wear three products: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, MAC ‘Groundwork’ Paint Pot, The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer, Stila Stay-all-Day Liquid Eyeliner, Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, Milani Luminoso powder blush, and L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara.
Wear three activities: Pretty chilled day of work in my office. After work, I went to my 1-hour Zumba class. And let me tell you, I GO FOR IT at Zumba, no movement is spared.
End-of-day verdict: I was expecting to look in my car’s internal mirror and see a streaky, smudgy mess. However, I looked pretty darn great. Sure, I was very red and dewy (ahem, drenched in sweat), but my mascara was intact, my shadow was still smooth, and my complexion was passable.
FINAL VERDICT
I love this stuff. I admit that I do need to give it a try with a heavier foundation and powder to see how it fares with a full-glam, full-coverage face. However, that’s just not my usual look, so I wanted to test it with my everyday face. The mist is excellent! It’s so fine that you never have to worry about frothy blobs or makeup-ruining droplets to spit out at you. The continuous spray means you can get an even coating over the face and neck.
It’s a keeper.
