Is it too early to be thinking about Christmas party makeup looks? Probably. Are we going to stop? Definitely not. In fact, the season for socializing (December, obvs) will be upon us in less than 20 sleeps, so it’s about time we start being proactive in the makeup planning department.
While Christmassy makeup looks are all very fun and lovely, the art of not exiting a Christmas party at 3am in the morning looking like a raccoon with lipstick smeared all over your chin is a serious business. Luckily, we have a few tips on hand for ensuring that your makeup stays put and behaves all night long while you’re doing the complete opposite!
Prep & hydrate your skin
If you apply foundation on to a dehydrated, un-prepped canvas, it will probably either (or both) cling on to dry patches that you didn’t even know you had and look unflattering, and your skin will slurp it up straight away – hence, your foundation will disappear within a couple of hours. We’d recommend opting for a hydrating primer, as they hydrate whilst also giving your foundation something to adhere to.
Layer your products
Layering makeup products is a sure-fire way of enhancing the longevity of your makeup, and so is a perfect method of application for when you need your makeup to last. For a blindingly poppin’ highlight, try layering your favourite powder highlight over a cream-based illuminator. This method also applies to foundation application; applying thin layers to build up to your desired coverage will offer more longevity than applying just the one heavy layer.
Line, fill, blot & fill again
That’s quite the tongue-twister, isn’t it? Sipping on festive tipples and nibbling on finger food at Christmas parties takes its toll on the bold lip look we worked so hard on, so this method comes in handy for ensuring your lipstick stays in place, even while you’re indulging! Firstly, line your entire lips with a matte lip liner; go over that with a layer of a matte lipstick; blot with a sheet of tissue, and fill again with the same lipstick.
Blotting in between your layers will create more of a barrier between your own lips and the last layer of lipstick, and will therefore enhance the longevity of your lipstick. Luckily, our LiveGlam KissMe liquid lippies don’t require this blotting action, but they do layer really well if you’re wanting to mix shades or create a festive ombre red lip look! If your preference lies with a glossier lip look, just layer your last application of lipstick with a coloured or clear gloss and voila!
Take blotting sheets along to the party with you!
If oily skin breaking down your makeup is your real problem, or if you want to steer clear of the oil slick look halfway through the night, then blotting sheets are your best friend. As tempting as it is to reach for the powder, it can ultimately lead to a heavy, cakey looking complexion, but blotting papers remove any unwanted oil/shine without disturbing your makeup.
