Go high-end for very specific things (the essentials), then continue to build your collection out of both high-end and drugstore products. Most drugstore brands have really stepped up their game in recent years and you can barely tell the difference with the end result!
Wondering how you can save money after splurging on your latest makeup haul? The secret is to invest in a couple of high-end products then grab a drugstore dupe of the same product. Here’s how you can make the most out of your high-end splurges!
1. Customize your liquid foundation
Liquid foundation is something you really don’t want to skimp on because it sets the foundation for a flawless makeup application. But let’s be real, there’s really no need to break out the expensive stuff every single day.
A bunch of drugstore foundations are almost just as great as the expensive stuff – keyword being ‘almost.’ Invest in a high-end foundation that you can really count on. You know, for those days you want to look like your absolute best self (first dates, weddings, special events), then head to the drugstore to grab a dupe!
For any regular ol’ day, you can either use your drugstore foundation on its own or create your own custom formula by mixing the two formulas. This way, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds and your expensive foundation will last A LOT longer.
2. DIY your own custom highlight
It’s hard to resist buying more highlighters when you’re a total sucker for cute packaging and pretty colors. Instead of wasting your money on every single dazzling shade that catches your eye, there’s a much easier (and cheaper) way to go about this.
Invest in one high-end highlighter and leave it at that. When it comes to highlighters or other illuminating products, the color payoff with most drugstore formulas is fairly impressive!
For a poppin’ highlight, mix your high-end and drugstore highlighters to create your own custom shade and finish. Another great way to save a couple of bucks on highlighter? Add in a shimmery eyeshadow to achieve a multi-dimensional effect or to create a cool new color combo.
3. Use two concealers
Because skin tones are completely unique to the individual, it’s a good idea to layer at least two different concealer formulas and shades onto your face to bring more dimension into your complexion.
By layering your high-end concealer in with your drugstore dupe, you won’t have to worry about running out of the expensive stuff anytime soon!
