Some people might think having oily skin is a curse, but it’s not! Having oilier skin prevents fine lines and actually helps you age gracefully. Plus, you have to remember you’re not oily, you’re just sparkly, so let’s embrace it and control it with these skin care tips for oily skin.
1. Cleanse the Canvas
Your skin is truly a canvas, be sure to wash it twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Wanna know what we recommend? An oil-based cleanser. We know… you think we’re crazy, but oil actually cuts out oil and it’s super gentle on the skin. Bobbi Brown’s Soothing Cleansing Oil is unreal! The botanicals dissolves makeup and impurities without stripping your natural oils and it smells like heaven in a bottle.
2. Tone up!
Because oiler skin is more prone to breakouts, make sure to prevent clogging your pores by using a gentle toner–one without alcohol, so you don’t over dry your skin. Mario Badescu’s Seaweed Cleansing Lotion is one to consider. A toner helps remove and excess oil and makeup left behind from your foundation or whatever your face decides to collect throughout the day. Toners should be used at night and in the morning as well to “prep” your skin for makeup.
3. Less is More
We know you might feel like a total grease ball mid-day, but don’t over do it. This means don’t keep washing your face or exfoliate with anything abrasive. Excessive washing and scrubbing will actually have you produce more oil and will cause breakouts. Oily skin needs TLC, but don’t do too much.
4. Hydration is Key
One of the biggest mistakes many sparkling beauties do is skip their moisturizer. Just because your skin produces more oil, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hydrate. Look for a moisturizer that is oil-free or gel based, which are bomb! Boscia makes one heck of a gel moisturizer called Sake Balm, don’t get it twisted now. This light-weight formula is ideal for anyone with oily or acne prone skin. Another thing to remember is, your skin depends on moisture. Have you noticed your makeup slipping-off lately? Well, it’s because you skin is thirsty and it goes after foundation since you don’t have a barrier in between. Trust us on this!
5. Makeup Don’t Breakup!
Some people that deal with oily skin tend to avoid wearing makeup, because they think it will clog their pores. Although it sounds like a good idea–to let your pores breathe, you don’t have to breakup with your foundation. You just need to find one that is best suitable for your skin type. Look for a foundation that is oil-free like Liquid Halo HD foundation by Smashbox which is made specifically for anyone that is oily or acne-prone. There are plenty of other great foundations for acne and oily skin, don’t go naked just yet.
