Beauty Resolutions for 2019!
Do you guys ever take a look at your makeup collection and think “wow, I’ve let this get out of hand…”. Or, do you realise you’ve completely neglected to stick to a proper sun protection routine? Perhaps you find yourself skipping key skincare steps, or maybe there are looks you’ve always wanted to try but feel a little afraid?
Never fear, we’ve created a little list of beauty resolutions for 2019. Hopefully, there’s something here to resonate with you and inspire you to be the best beauty-you in the year ahead!
(P.s. 2019 already? WHAT?)
1. Lock down a skincare routine
It’s so easy to end up with a collection of half-empty cleanser, toner and moisturizer bottles. This happens when you constantly buy new products to try out, only to switch to a new one a month later. You’ll save money and bathroom space by settling on a set of skincare products to stick to for the year.
Find a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and mask which nourishes and beautifies your skin, and stick to it. Use each product up till the end and repurchase when you need to. By using one set of skincare products long term, your skin will get the full benefit of the ingredients over time.
2. Edit your collection
Getting rid of makeup can be so heart-wrenching, as dramatic as that sounds. We get so sentimental and attached to makeup as it holds precious memories. There’s always that thought of “but I might use it one day!”.
The truth is, if you can’t remember the last time you used a certain product, it’s gotta go. If a product smells funny or looks off, toss it. If you’re not sure you like the color or formula, hand it on. The goal is to have a carefully curated collection of makeup you love, use and feel great in. Once you’ve pared it down to the essentials, there’s room to slowly start adding new products…wisely! (As you’ll read further below).
3. Have more beauty-inspired fun (be “beauty-brave!”)
You know what I’ve absolutely loved about 2018 beauty trends? All the fricking color, glitter and fun! But in saying that, I can still be a little sheepish at times about truly rocking bold, bright shades or interesting textures. I really want to, but something holds me back from going 100% bold.
If you can relate to this, how about we make a pact to put our beauty inhibitions aside and start playing more? This will mean different things to different people. For you, it may be finally wearing that red lip. For others, it might be trying out that neon liner look from a YouTuber.
Spend some time in your bathroom applying new, crazy, bold looks and see how it feels. If you don’t like it? Wash it off. If you love it? Get out there and rock it!
4. Wear an SPF all year round
I don’t need to dwell on this one, but it should be high on all of our beauty resolution lists. Find an SPF cream which agrees with your skin type and use it under your makeup every, single day. As my Mum ALWAYS tells me “no amount of serums and creams will work if you don’t wear an SPF”. The lady is right.
5. Perfect at least one go-to look
Having a go-to look not only eliminates the “decision” time on busy mornings, but it also gives you a default set of products to pack should you need to. When time is precious and you need a polished look ASAP, you can call on your go-to.
Work on perfecting the sequence, the technique, and the products needed. It might be a brown smokey eye and rose lips, or it might be an opaque wing (brave!) and a sculpted face. Whatever it is, become an expert at it so you can do it on autopilot.
When you need to pack a bag quickly (i.e. spontaneous night out, surprise party or simply ran out of time to pack properly), you’ll have a list of products in your head which will complete an entire look.
6. Shop wisely
I feel like such a hypocrite even mentioning this one! But I am determined to follow my own advice. I am totally guilty of impulsively buying new makeup all the time, not thinking about whether I’ve already got a similar color or finish. I end up with a cluttered makeup drawer full of items I’ll never use and will eventually throw out.
Sound familiar? If so, let’s vow to think before we shop! Keep a little list of products you really want, and if after a while you’re still thinking about one or two in particular, then go ahead and buy them. That way, you’ll end up with products you really love and know you will use.
7. Love yourself, makeup or not!
Makeup is there for us to play with, have fun with and express ourselves with. Sure, it makes us feel powerful and gorgeous, which is always a great bonus. But we always need to remember that we are just as worthy, beautiful and special even without a scrap of makeup.
Get used to looking at yourself without makeup on and learn to love what you see. I’ve been through phases where I couldn’t have a makeup-free face because it made me feel unworthy, unattractive and inferior to all the other gorgeous gals out there. If you’re going through this…believe me, you’re beautiful with no makeup! Look at your fresh face and love those under eye circles, embrace that texture, and see those fine lines as evidence of your full and fun life.
Conclusion
Let’s make 2019 a year of beauty fun, sun smarts, self-love, beauty-inspired expression, savvy shopping and great skincare!
