For some, wearing makeup in the heat even with the air conditioner on full blast sounds pretty…well, hellish. For us makeup-crazed others, nothing could part us from our beloved makeup collections and so we’ve had to improvise by finding the best ways for comfortably and practically wearing makeup throughout the hot summer months…
1) Prep, properly
All good makeup artists will tell you that half the battle with creating a flawless face of makeup is with the prepping of the skin. The products you use before applying any makeup can enhance its longevity dramatically, so ensuring the skin is properly hydrated and primed is important for long, hot days. Using a hydrating primer will prevent your skin from sucking up all the moisture and water content from your foundation, and will also give it something to adhere to so as to make it last for a much longer period of time than it would without.
2) Opt for creams over powders
Not only do creams catch the light beautifully and make the skin look healthy and naturally radiant, they also layer much more seamlessly than powders. For reapplication throughout the day, layering cream bronzers and blushers will help you to avoid a cake-like build-up of powder products. Our top tip is to use our LiveGlam KissMe lippies for both your lips and your cheeks; they layer beautifully well, and will stay put for the duration of the day and evening.
3) Use lightweight, water-based foundations
Rich foundations that are thick in consistency will slip and slide with the heat, but using lightweight formulas will withstand the heat as the layer of product on your skin will be much thinner, while still providing a good amount of coverage. Remember to apply in layers to build your coverage, rather than going in with a heavy hand!
4) Opt for blotting papers and setting sprays over setting powders
Reapplying setting powder throughout the day can lead to a build of product, which, in turn, can result in an unflatteringly cakey complexion. If you have a particularly oily skin or want to combat the excess shine that your skin produces throughout the day, try using blotting papers instead. They work to soak up excess sebum and naturally occurring oils, without adding any additional product to the skin, and so the complexion remains fresh looking all day long. If blotting isn’t for you, try spritzing your face with a mattifying setting spray throughout the day to control the shine and keep you looking flawless.
