Best Eye Makeup Techniques for Your Eye Shape!

Not all makeup techniques are universally flattering. Now, looking like your best self doesn’t require expert-level makeup skills – it’s all about learning the right techniques to enhance your natural beauty.

Here are the best makeup techniques for different eye shapes!

Wide-set eyes

What are wide-set eyes? When you have wide-set eyes, the space between the eyes is wider than the width of one eye.

How to apply makeup on wide-set eyes:

It’s ideal to add more definition into the innermost area of the eye section to create the illusion of the eyes being set closer together. When applying eyeshadow, keep darker colors closer to the inner halves and lighter colors near the outer corners.

With eyeliner, try to bring the eyeliner as close as possible into the inner corners of your eyes when you’re lining the top and bottom. For your brows, fill them in closer together at the front section to minimize the space in between them.

Close-set eyes

What are close-set eyes? When you have close-set eyes, the space in between the eyes is smaller than the size of one eye.

How to apply makeup on close-set eyes:

The goal here is to make the eyes seem further apart from each other. The best technique is to apply your eyeshadow with a gradated effect from lightest to darkest (starting from the inner corner). Add highlighter into the area around the inner corners of your eyes to create the illusion of more distance in the space between them.

When applying eyeliner, focus on adding more definition into the outer halves of the eyes on the top and bottom. A cat-eye is definitely one of the best looks to do on a pair of close-set eyes! When filling in your brows, extend the tail a bit further to achieve a more elongated effect.

Deep-set eyes

What are deep-set eyes? Deep-set eyes are positioned deeper into the skull. The most common characteristic of deep-set eyes is a more prominent brow bone.

How to apply makeup on deep-set eyes:

Since deep-set eyes are positioned further into the eye socket, the idea here is to use makeup to bring the eyes forward.

Try to stay away from darker eyeshadow colors – it’s best to opt for light neutral shades or eyeshadow with a bit of shimmer. Start off by using a light neutral shade as a base and blending it over the entire lid. Apply a medium shade into the crease and pull it out into the outer corner of your eye. The last step is to highlight the brow bone with a bit of highlighter or a very light eyeshadow color.
