Where You Should Actually Apply Blush

Blush is one of those beauty steps which can go completely haywire if you’re not careful. If you use too much and fail to blend it, you can look patchy and a lil clownish. If you apply it in a severe shape with harsh lines you can look a little dated. But it’s generally where to apply it which trips most of us up. There are a few options to go for, all of which provide a different kind of finish to your look. Here are 3 of the best ways to apply your blush!

1. Up high

If you’re blessed with high cheekbones and an oval face, you would look incredible with your blush applied high on your cheekbones. Dust or dab your blush onto your cheekbones, closer to your outer eyes than your apples. You can extend it out toward the hairline and even up toward the temple. This gives your look an edgy, modern vibe (i.e. Rihanna at the Met Gala 2017) with a touch of 1970s glam. Remember to blend, blend, blend. Higher blush application will make high cheekbones pop.

2. On the apples

Applying your blush to the apples of the cheeks (the round, protruding parts of the cheeks which pop when you smile) gives you a natural, healthy flush. This is the technique to use if you’re going for a no-makeup look with a youthful glow. If you have a round-shaped face, your blush will look the cutest on the apples of your cheeks and blended outward.

3. Around the face

Ladies and gents, don’t be afraid to use your blush to tie your whole look together. After flushing your cheeks, use whatever’s left on your brush to dust over the nose, hairline, temples and chin. You’re not necessarily going to see the color, but it’s going to warm up the complexion and tie the color together.

And hey, it even looks beautiful when brushed through the crease of the eye. Take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and dust the blush very lightly through the crease. Just a touch of blush color will warm the eyes, make green and blue eyes pop, and will complete your look with a stunning cohesiveness.

Conclusion

The best way to find the right blush application for you is to get in front of the mirror and apply it in a few different ways. Do this at the end of the night when you’re going to be washing your face anyway. Apply up high on one side, on the apples on the other and see which you like best.

Happy blushing!
