Skin Blemishes: Top Tips for Getting Rid of Them Fast

Posted by LiveGlam on Feb 17, 2017

You just got in from a long night of partying and the last thing you want to do is wash off your makeup or even worse, you’ve been binging on chocolate because of your monthly visit and you wake up to a huge pimple smack in the middle of your forehead. The blemish is practically screaming from irritation, but whatever you do, do not attempt to pop it a la high school days. Here are some top tips for keeping healthy skin and getting rid of skin blemishes, fast.

Get Your Skincare in Formation

Having an a.m. and p.m. daily skincare routine is essential for healthy and blemish-free skin, so all skin types should use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. For normal and dry skin, incorporating natural skin products like a serum into your routine can add extra benefits, such as added moisture or delivering antioxidants. Those occasional long night or chocolate binge aren’t the sole cause of skin blemishes. Factors like sun exposure, aging, and diet all affect our beautiful faces. Staying hydrated and identifying the root of your skincare issue will lead to healthy skin.

Quick tips:

  • – Use products based on your skincare type, i.e. dry skin doesn’t need as aggressive exfoliation as oily skin, and normal skin types don’t need heavy moisturizers
  • – Apply a face mask weekly
  • – Eat a balanced diet full of antioxidants and take beauty supplements
  • – Always use sunscreen
  • – Before you unbox new goodies from your favorite makeup subscription, always read the ingredients on each product to check for harmful or irritating chemicals

Master DIY Treatments for Skin Blemishes

Drugstore shelves are crowded with products claiming to relieve your face of skin blemishes by the next morning, but unfortunately those products don’t truly heal your problems, they just provide temporary relief. On the bright side, DIY treatments don’t have to be complicated. With just a few ingredients that you probably already have, you can whip up a few blemish removers in less than five minutes.

Cinnamon and Honey Mask

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

2 tablespoons of honey

Mix the cinnamon and honey into a paste. Rinse your face and pat dry. Apply paste to blemishes and leave overnight. Can be used daily.

Aloe Vera Acne Treatment

2 tbsp aloe vera gel

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp sugar

First, mix all ingredients together. Rub on skin and let sit for 15 minutes. Let it dry and then rinse your face. Alternatively, you can apply extracted aloe vera gel alone directly to your face. Can be used daily for up to a month.

Bentonite Clay Mask

1 tbsp Bentonite Clay

1-2 tbsp water or apple cider vinegar

Start mixing to form a moderately thick paste. Apply paste to face for 10 to 25 minutes. Then let the mask dry, rinse, and apply moisturizer. Can be used two to three times per week.

No time for the DIY thing? Opt for natural skincare products from brands like Shea Moisture, Fresh, Yes-To, or Josie Maran help clear up those skin blemishes, chemical free.

Prevent and Repair Skin Blemishes

Washing your face twice daily, removing dead skin cells with exfoliation, not touching your face, and keeping clean pillowcases are easy ways to prevent blemishes. But of course, we aren’t perfect and blemishes can still pop up (pun intended) regardless of how precious we treat our face. To repair, look for products (or make your own) with ingredients like lemon juice, tomatoes, and essential oils.
