Nyx Honey Dew Me Up Product Review

Posted by LiveGlam on Jul 11, 2016

Alright, honey, let’s dew this review (ok, ok, enough with the puns). So the Nyx Honey Dew Me Up isn’t a ‘new’ product, it’s been out for a few years now, but the gold-flaked face oils and primers have been so hot right now that this one has resurfaced with the trend. You can find this product at Target for only $16.99 (compared to $70+ for the high end brands)!

The beautiful packaging and little bits of gold immediately draw you in. The product is made with honey and collagen to improve the health of your skin while using it, and gold flakes for an illuminating glow. Now, a pretty face isn’t enough to sell me on a product, so let’s break down our 3 P’s (Packaging, Performance, Price) and see what it’s about!

Packaging

Let’s start with packaging. We already know it’s beautiful but there is more to packaging than looking good. We want a total package. It needs to be as functional as it is cute. (I promise–not talking about a man!) That’s where this product waivers a bit to me.

The little jar of goodies comes with a scoop, similar to what you’d see in a classic honey pot. It’s really easy to dip in and grab product, but then where do you put it? If you’re swiping this wand across your face and then back in the jar (guilty!) then you are essentially desanitizing the whole container with your bacteria. (Uh oh!) Don’t let this deter you too bad, tho, you can easily take an alcohol wipe and clean the spatula before putting it back in the pot. You could also put the product to a clean palette and apply it with your fingers.

We’re gonna give this a 4 out of 5 on packaging for that reason. Sure, you could put it in a squirt bottle or a dropper, but honey jar style is too cute, and spatula applies really well.

Performance

Now for the truly important part… does it work? Well, just call me Pooh and give me that honey. What we notice most is how smooth makeup applies over it.

We find this product benefits skin that runs on the dry side, having problems getting cream/liquid makeup to sit under the eye without looking flaky or cakey. With Honey Dew Me Up, the skin comes out so smooth and airbrushed looking! You don’t notice the gold flakes on the skin when it’s blended (this may be different for darker skin tones), but do see an instant radiance.

Admittedly, this is not the best standalone primer. It works, but you’ll get better results when using it with a primer. Apply moisturizer first, then the Honey Dew Me Up, and after giving it a few minutes to set, throw your regular primer over it. And then, like magic, you become a Disney princess and skip off into the sunset (not really, obvi, but it feels like a possibility with this flawless finish!)

After using it for about 2 weeks, an improvement in overall skin texture and fine lines was seen!

But just because it claims to be a primer, and it’s not actually a great primer, we’ll give you a 4.

Price

Now about the price! Comparably, this is SUPER affordable and cheap! Skin care just ain’t cheap. But I also understand that it is a bit on the pricey side for Nyx. So I’ll give it a 4.5 for that.

Overall– 4

Would we buy again? Yes. Do we recommend it for the price/performance ratio? Yep. Have we met prince charming in the past 2 weeks since using Honey Dew Me Up? No, but I won’t hold Nyx responsible for that. This is LA after all! ♥

  • Do you think this is a good add to a makeup kit? Personally, I use Farsali Rose Gold Elixir. Thanks!

    • Hi Edith! Thanks for asking. The Nyx Honey Dew Me Up is a great product to have, but does not replace the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir as they have very different properties. The Farsali is a face oil, while the Nyx is more of a serum with a gel-like consistency. They do have similar intended purposes, but go about it in different ways! The Farsali will be more moisturizing, however, and the Nyx is to be used as a base, not while blending the foundation. I hope that helped answer your question! Thanks for reading ♥
