How To Find the Perfect Contour and Blush Shade for Your Skin Tone

Posted by Lanie Edwards on Dec 08, 2017

We get it, a makeup look doesn’t feel complete without your contour, a youthful flush on your cheeks, and a poppin’ highlight. However, sometimes it’s hard to figure out how to find the right shades for your skin tone. It may look too ashy, orange, or simply just not show up on your complexion. Luckily, we’ve got some great tips to help you build the perfect kit to enhance those facial features!

Makeup Geek offers multiple shades of contour powders and blushes so that you’re able to completely customize your own palette. Whether you need warm or cool tones for fair to deep skin, they’ve got every color you need to make you contour dreams come true.

Start by choosing an empty Z-Palette on their website. For our kit, we chose the large palette, which fits 8 large pans (or 27 eyeshadow pans). Next, choose your contour shades. It’s nice to have at least 2-3 different options in your palette, because your skin tone likely changes every season. You can also use a warm shade as a bronzer, and a cool shade for your contour to create more depth.

Our palette’s contour shades include Break Up, Bad Habit, Half Hearted, and Cool Deep from Makeup Geek.

Now, time to choose some blushes to bring some life back into your face! If you’re unsure about how to choose the perfect shade, the trick is to pick one that matches the color of your cheeks when you have a natural flush. Aka, choose ones that have the same undertone as your skin. That shade is guaranteed to look great on you every time! If you want a more bold blush, choose shades with the opposite undertone as your skin.

If you have fair skin, your go-to shades are soft pink and peach. Medium tones should try mauves, deep peach, and a rich pink. Deep tones look great with warm brown, berry, fuchsia, and tangerine shades.

Our palette includes the shades Chivalry, Rendezvous, Puppy Love and Cherish.

Now that your palette is complete, glo’ up by adding a highlight to your cheekbones, nose, and cupid’s bow! These duo-chrome highlighters in Psychedelic and Ablaze from Makeup Geek are breathtaking and will surely turn heads.
