What’s the Best Facial Moisturizer for Each Skin Type?

Posted by Preeti Sareen on Dec 05, 2016

Looking for the perfect moisturizer for your skin type? You’re in luck! We know that finding that wonderful, magical moisturizer that makes you feel brand new can be tough when you have a unique skin type. What’s worse is that most moisturizers are designed as “generic” and meant to encompass all skin types – but they do anything but that. To help you find the best facial moisturizer that will actually make your skin happy, we’ve put together a list of our favorite skin-type specific products.

1. Acne-Prone Skin

If you have acne prone skin, you need a moisturizer that doesn’t pack a lot of moisture. It may sound counterintuitive, but you need your skin to be hydrated and healthy.  What you don’t need is extra greasiness and clogged pores that comes from most hydrating moisturizers. The best facial moisturizer for you would be one that is light and airy, and one that is specifically designed with acne-fighting ingredients – the belif aqua bomb or Origin’s Zero Oil moisturizer may be perfect for you.

2. Dry Skin

Contrary to acne-prone skin, if you have dry skin you’ll need all the moisture and hydration you can get. It’s important to note that you should try to avoid moisturizers directed at acne prone skin. Many of them will contain ingredients meant to dry out acne. For the best facial moisturizer for your dry skin, we recommend Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion or Clinique’s Moisture Surge Intense Hydrator.

3. Oily Skin

If oily skin is your problem (but you don’t have much acne) you might want to focus on finding light, oil-free products. They will help reduce the overall oil production in your skin. If you already have naturally lubricated skin and add layers of oily product on top. This will only produce more shine and get more clogged pores – which could lead you down the path to acne. To avoid this, we suggest using a lighter serum or hydration gel, like the boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel or Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost water gel.

4. Combination Skin Type

If you suffer from combination skin, you need a moisturizer that will hydrate without being too greasy. Additionally, one that will fight acne without being too drying. Our favorites for this very common skin type are Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer and Origin’s A Perfect World Moisturizer.
