How Korean Skincare Transformed My Skin

Posted by Lanie Edwards on Nov 01, 2017

Testing out new skincare products can always be a daring experience because you never know how your skin is going to react. It may love it, or break out and turn your face into a planet, which is the exact opposite of what you wanted. Luckily, my skin did not freak out when testing out Korean Skincare products for the first time. Instead, it greatly improved!

To start off my journey with Korean skincare, I tried out the Konjac sponge and Acne Pimple Master Patch, both available on Amazon. I had never heard of a Konjac sponge before, but it looked intriguing and had great reviews so I thought, “why not?”

1. Konjac Sponge

Let me tell you, this is no average sponge. With activated bamboo charcoal, this facial sponge cleanses pores, removes excess oil, and fights bacteria to help clear acne. It also acts as a gentle exfoliant that tones your face and gives you a radiant glow.

When I first tried it, I was very confused. It felt weird just rubbing a sponge around my face with no cleanser. However, after 1 week I noticed the BIGGEST difference in my skin. I have oily and somewhat acne-prone skin, so I’m always looking for ways to reduce oil. I really didn’t think this sponge would help with that, but it did. I’ve noticed a huge decrease in the amount of oil my face produces throughout the day, and I barely need to touch up my foundation anymore!

This sponge also leaves your face feeling super clean and smooth. It really gets into your pores and cleans all the gunk out without feeling harsh or drying. All you have to do is wet the sponge and gently rub it around your skin. You do not need to add a cleanser, but you can if you want! I like to use the sponge by itself after I’ve already used a foaming cleanser for a final clean. This thing is magic, and has become a permanent staple in my daily skincare routine. There are multiple versions of this sponge depending on your skin type, so make sure to get the one that fits yours the best!

2. Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch

Next, I tried the Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch. These are circular patches that you stick on top of your blemish to heal it and prevent further breakouts. I thought this concept was super cool, so I had to put it to the test.

This pack comes with 24 hydrocolloid patches in various sizes. They’re very thin and feel like nothing is on your skin. I honestly forget that I have it on until one of family members ask what’s on my face. You can wear these for up to 12 hours, so I like to sleep with them on overnight.

Now, these will not completely get rid of your blemish overnight. However, I have definitely noticed that my blemishes reduce in size after wearing them for 8-12 hours. It pulls out all the dirt that lives inside pimples and reduces redness. I also love the fact that the blemish is protected and won’t get further irritated. This could also be a great solution for those who tend to pick at their acne.

Though this does not instantly get rid of a pimple, I think it’s a great way to protect your skin and gradually reduce the size of those unwanted blemishes. Since I don’t want to waste them, I only use these when I have a large, pesky pimple that I need some extra help with, or the night before a special occasion.

Both of these products have greatly improved my skincare routine, as well as the appearance and feel of my skin. With that, I’m definitely inspired to try more Korean Skincare products and see how my skin transforms. My next journey might be the 10-step Korean Skincare Routine, which we have a blog post about here!
