Skin Care Tips for Dry Skin – Feel Moisturized all the Time!

Posted by LiveGlam on Feb 21, 2017

Despite lack of frigid temperatures this winter, there’s still a change in the air. Offices have turned up the heat and your house has a space heater in every room, all depleting your skin of its natural moisture. But with just a few tweaks to your daily beauty regime, you can win the battle against dryness. Use these skin care tips for dry skin to feel moisturized all the time this season.

Skip the Sauna

Reduce time in the shower to no more than 10 minutes and use warm water instead of hot water. A hot steamy shower is invigorating but it strips moisture from your skin. If necessary, set a timer or play a few of your favorite shower jams to keep track of time.

L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil

Be Gentle

Use a gentle or cream-based cleanser instead of traditional bar soaps, which contain sulfate, another moisture-stripping ingredient. Cream-based cleaners also benefit irritated skin because of its gentle properties. The same goes for your face, important skin care tips for dry skin. Cream or oil cleansers are much more moisturizing than sulfate-based cleanser, especially during colder months, because they keep the lipids in your skin closed so that irritants won’t get in.

Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish

Scrub It Away

Remove dry skin cells with sugar scrubs. Brown sugar scrubs are an easy DIY beauty treatment – just mix brown sugar with your favorite oil (olive and jojoba oils are great options) and a few drops of lemon. Sugar scrubs also act as a blemish remover over time. But getting rid of dead skin is an imperative skin care tip for dry skin.

Shea Moisture Argan Oil and Raw Shea Dry Oil Mist

Oil Up

Keep a bottle of oil near your tub for post-shower moisturizing. While your skin is still damp, apply the oil all over your body before, or in place of, your daily moisturizer. This traps the moisture into your skin. During the colder months, this trick works for all different skin types. For really dry skin, still apply a moisturizer after the oil. Look for lotions and moisturizers that are made for dry to very dry skin and contain ingredients like shea butter, almond oil, or coconut oil and have a thick consistency. But warning – acne prone skin should shy away from coconut oil as it can be known to clog pores.

Aveeno Protect+Hydrate Lotion – SPF 30

Don’t Let the Sun Shine In

Applying SPF is another beneficial skin care tip for dry skin. Winter does not mean it’s time to stop applying SPF. It’s still important to protect your skin from sun damage, which can be drying even while its cold. This includes lips, too. Always apply a lip protectant that contains SPF.
